The Fellowship of National Board (FNB) in Pediatric Hemato-Oncology is a 2-year super-specialty training program accredited by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). It is designed to provide in-depth training in the diagnosis and management of pediatric hematologic disorders and childhood cancers, including leukemias, lymphomas, and solid tumors, with a strong emphasis on bone marrow transplantation (BMT).

Candidates who have completed MD or DNB in Pediatrics from an NBEMS or NMC-recognized institution are eligible to apply. Selection is based on merit through the FET (Fellowship Entrance Test) conducted by NBEMS.

Fellows are trained in the comprehensive care of pediatric hematology and oncology patients, including diagnosis, chemotherapy administration, supportive care, and long-term follow-up. The program offers active participation in BMT procedures, molecular diagnostics, and multidisciplinary tumor boards, under the expert mentorship of Dr. Intezar Mehdi, HOD – Department of Pediatric Oncology, Hematology, and BMT, HCG Cancer Center, Bangalore.

The program integrates academic learning with clinical research, encouraging fellows to undertake clinical trials, outcome studies, and publications. Regular academic sessions, seminars, and case discussions are conducted to strengthen both theoretical and practical knowledge. Fellows are also encouraged to present their work at national and international conferences.

Graduates can work as Consultant Pediatric Hemato-Oncologists or BMT Specialists in tertiary care centers, pediatric hospitals, and academic institutions. The fellowship also opens pathways to academic teaching roles, clinical research positions, and international fellowships in advanced pediatric oncology and transplant medicine.
