FAQs:

The Fellowship of National Board (FNB) in Onco-Anesthesia is a 2-year super-specialty fellowship accredited by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). The program provides specialized training in perioperative management of cancer patients, covering anesthesia for major oncologic surgeries, pain management, critical care, and enhanced recovery protocols.

Applicants must have completed MD or DNB in Anesthesiology from an NBEMS or NMC-recognized institution. Admission is based on merit through the Fellowship Entrance Test (FET) conducted by NBEMS.

Fellows receive intensive hands-on experience in anesthesia management for complex oncologic surgeries — including head and neck, thoracic, gastrointestinal, gynecologic, and pediatric oncology procedures. The training also covers perioperative care for high-risk cancer patients, oncologic pain management, and critical care interventions under the expert mentorship of Dr. Sunil Kumar, Senior Anaesthetist, HCG Cancer Center, Bangalore.

The curriculum integrates clinical training with research-oriented learning, encouraging fellows to participate in clinical audits, pain management studies, and perioperative outcome research. Regular academic sessions, journal clubs, and interdisciplinary discussions help strengthen both theoretical understanding and applied clinical judgment.

Graduates can pursue careers as Consultant Onco-Anaesthetists, Perioperative Care Specialists, or Critical Care Consultants in cancer hospitals, tertiary centers, and academic institutions. The fellowship also opens avenues for academic roles, clinical research, and international fellowships in advanced cancer anesthesia and pain medicine.
